WASH emergency response Sitoktaya Township

Severe flooding began in July 2015 and continued until August affecting 12 of the 14 states in Myanmar. According to the Government's Relief and Resettlement Department, 268,000 people were evacuated. Sitoktaya township in Magway region was one of the most affected township.


Water sources and latrine facilities were left damaged and covered with flood sediments and mud. CDA intervened in 30 targeted villages to prevent the spread of water born diseases by providing safe driniking water. Several actions followed the emergency response including the cleaning of the villages and schools, latrines and ponds renovation. Communities were also invited to participate in WASH and capacity building trainings.
