Vision Training Initiative

           Vision Treatment training initiative facilitates treatment of cataract and other eye diseases common in the Dry Zone, Myanmar. This program was implemented with the assistance of Latter-Day Saint Charities (LDSC) during 2008.

            At the Conference of Eye Specialists at Mandalay, training course on Microsurgery small incision was conducted for eye specialists especially from ten townships at Mandalay. They were equipped with Microscopy small incision non-phaco Appasamy sets.

           Ocular Plastics & Glaucoma Training Courses were also conducted by LDSC ophthalmologists. A team of two volunteer ophthalmologists conducted training to doctors and surgical technicians. Eye specialists from 24 Eye Care Centers, Prevention of Blindness Centers, Mandalay General Eye Hospital and Yangon General Eye Hospital attended the training. Equipment and supplies were also donated for the Eye Hospitals.

           Corneal Blindness is the third leading cause of blindness in Myanmar next to cataract and glaucoma. LDSC provided equipments and surgical instruments for Yangon Eye Hospital.
